(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright), mi. Received January 30, 1.35 p.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 29. Responsible journals are seriously considering the possibilities of a conflict between the United States and Japan over the situation in China. ■ The tone is moderate, but indicative of the deep feeling that has been aroused. The Kansas City Journal says; “There is no telling what will happen if Japan interferes with the Occidental nations or the safety of their nationals. The peace of the world will be more seriously endangered in the - immediate future than since 1914.” " The New York Daily News states: “Let us all keep our mouths shut and pray, a little. We seem to be drifting nearer real trouble in the Far East. The Cleveland Plain Dealer says: “Shall there be war between the United States and Japan? Emphatically no.” The paper adds: “Something should be done 4o moderate the madness of the Japanese.”The New York Herald Tribune says: “A boycott would not only mean force, but also war. The rema.rk of an anonymous British official that an Anglo-American boycott is too absurd to be considered must be heartily endorsed.” t
