THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone of slight intensity has been crossing the -North Island. A fresh depression of the westerly type is approaching the South Island. Winds becoming north to north-west generally,. and freshening; reach gales probably in exposed positions in and south of Cook Strait. Moderate sea at first, but rising south of Cape Egmont, and later in offshore waters south of Castlepoint. In eastern Tasman Sea, freshening -northerly winds and moderate but rising sea. Weather fine at first, with rising temperatures, but becoming unsettled shortly in western districts from Taranaki southwards, with rain gradually developing. DISTRICT REPORT. barometerTunsteady. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds. The weather will probably prove squally and changeable with scattered showers. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU _RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —Summer level.
