VALEDICTORY
BUSINESS MANAGER HONOURED. At the conclusion of business activities on Friday evening, the staffs of the -main establishment of Messrs Watson Bros., Ltd., together with representatives from the four branch shops and service stations, assembled at the central office to bid farewell to one of their number in Mr R. J. Meatyard. who has severed his nection with this well-known firm. Mr Meatyard has been associated with the firm over a period of 20 years and, since the reorganisation of the company., he has occupied the position of manager of the central directing office in the Square. As a tribute to his popularity the company which foregathered numbered some 40 odd employees and the general regret at the severing of the old associations was voiced by Mr D. W. Mitchell, hardware manager, who referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Meatyard’s keen usiness ability and to the popularity which he had gained for himself, botn with the jitaff and general public, as a result ofjhis fair mindedness and sympathy. ■ On behalf of the employees he asked Mr Meatyard to accept a solid leather suit case and travelling rug as a small memento of the esteem in which he is held by those connected with the firip in Palmerston North. In returning thanks for their expression of goodwill, Mr Meatyard stated that during his long association with the firm he had made many friends among the staff and the severance with his business ties would carry with it a large measure of regret. The singing of “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and several rounds of cheers brought the little function to a happy conclusion. 1
