CORRESPONDENCE

PASSION FRUIT.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —When your reporter, quite a young man, called on me a few days ago to seek information re growing passion fruit, I at the beginning said it was the duty, of anyone who could assist by giving information gained by experience so that the scheme would not be jeopardised at the outset, and it was in this spirit the interview took place. The time was short; I only gave him the essentials. On wading his report I was very pleased indeed: he has shown that he was “seized” of the position; facts were plaoed in a convincing manner 'leaving no cause for misunderstanding—brief and to the point; -“multum in parvo.” I tender him my thanks. I must also thank Mr J. A. Nash, M:P. ; for his appreciative remarks set out in his letter to you of January 29th. I can assure him that he can rely on my advioe, experience and co-. operation on kny matter relating to horticulture or arboriculture. I regret he has been so hasty in bringing the matter before the House, the government and the Unemployment Board before fully qualifying himself to speak with certitude on the merits of the scheme. No 2in his letter to the effect that plants will in from nine to 12 months after planting be productive, must not be accepted seriously. It is imperative the plants thoroughly establish themselves before fruiting.—Yours, etc., , JOHN NAIRN.

Awapuni,
