DEFENDANTS RELEASED
HONOLULU, Jan. 31
Tho defendants in the Fortescue case were released to the custody of the Navy about noon, after the Secretary of the Navy had approved of the arrangements for tlieir admission to bail. The defendants spent the night ill the police station, where they were made as comfortable as possible, then after the court proceedings they, left for the navy yard at Pearl Harbour. The next step is the entering of a plea on the charge of murder in the second degree on Monday.
The defendants were held the murder of a Japaneses, who it was alleged, was concerned in a serious assault upon the wife of one of the defendants, Lieutenant Massie. Mrs. Massie is the daughter of Mrs Fortescue, another of the defendants.
