(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Feb. 1. Perfect weather which prevailed over the week-end was taken full advantage of in the district. Several parties visited the beaohos, and tho local sports wore quick to seize tho opportunity to arrange matches. Considerable interest was evinced in tho cricket match, Milson versus Halcombe, which was played in Palmerston North. Theso two teams mot about ton weeks ago when Milson inflicted a severe defeat on tho visitors. Halqombo have sinco shown improved form, and were instrumental in reversing tho previous decision. On this occasion the teams woro evenly matched, both succeeding in compiling a first innings score of 115. For Milson, i Corkindalo scored 28 and Bell 25, whilo Hutton and Brady with 34 runs eaoh were top scorers for Halcombe, both players succumbing to C. McLaren, who was bowling well to form. In their second strike Milson were unable to exceed 81, Davis 24 and James 15 being tho only two to roach double figures. During this innings Halcombe tried eight bowlers, six taking wickets. Halcombe replied with 93, Brady 24 and Hutton 16 again doing well, whilst Clapham, who knocked up two sixers, oarried his bat for 14. Halcombe won by 12 run's.' ' Quite a considerable amount of activity has been evidenced in the ladder matches of tho Milson Tennis Club during the past week, Mrs Nicholson, who headed tho ladies' laddor, was challenged and defeated by Miss Highfield 25 —30, whilst E. F. Nicholson, who occupied the premier position amongst tho men, successfully withstood tho challenge of H. Brown 40-26. During the week-end the club played a match against Takaro B on the local courts, and met with strong opposition, suffering defeat by 18 sets to 6. Tho weather was idoal for the match, a slight breeze blowing across the courts proving very cooling. The visitors. were entertained by the ladies’ committee to afternoon tea, and, later, to tea. Play throughout was interesting, many games going to douce several times, and tho experience gained by the local players should stand thorn in good stead.
