AUSTRALIAN POULTRY.
EMBARGO SOUGHT IN CANADA. Received December 13, 9.5 a.m. OTTAWA, Dec. 12. A propospal to prohibit the importation into Canada of poultry from Australia, as made by the poultry committee of the British Columbia Poultry Conference to Mr William Atkinson, British Columbia Minister of Agriculture, may bo in the nature of a retaliatory measure, it was stated by the Dominion Department of Agriculture to-day. The British Columbia Conference is seeking an embargo against Australian poultry because of the presence of Newcastle disease in some parts of that country. The Department of Agriculture here states that Australia has put into effect an order prohibiting the entry of poultry into the Commonwealth from North America because of infectious bronchitis. No intimation was given a.s to what action is likely if the British Columbia resolution is forwarded to the Dominion Government.
