(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHAKARONGO, Dee. 12. On Friday evening the ehildren’s party and Christmas tree, given by the Wiiakarongo Women’s Institute, was held in the ha lh There was a splendid attendance of children and adults. The hall was prettily decorated with streamers and the Christmas tree looked very pretty with its brunches hung with presents and balloons. Messrs J. llomley and A. J. Harvey each acted as Father Christmas and caused much amusement in their costumes. As there were no chimneys for them to conic down it was necessary to use the windows. The children became very excited at the sight of them entering and still more so when they were all given presents off HTe tree. Prior to this Mesdames Prince (presidents), Olsen (secretary) and Miss Speedy (treasurer) were made the recipients of gifts given by the members of tho Women's Institute in recognition of tho good work they had done in connection with the institute. The children were provided with ice creams and balloons. Items were then given by some of tho school children, the programme being as follows : Chariots, juniors; pianoforte solo. Master G. Spall; recitations, Lena Knudsen, Lilly Stewart, Grace Hodgson, Elsie Harvey; recitation, Dulcie Prince; song. Gore. there is also to be a trophy again this season for the player who puts in the most challenges.
