The newspaper printed an anonymous letter urging that the Prince of Wales’ guard of honour on his recent visit to Belfast should comprise soldiers instead of six-foot policemen, and adding: “We Ulsterites do not want outsiders nor our guard of honour to be composed of liars and perjurers.” The prosecution contended that there was the innuendo that the Royal Ulster Constabulary were liars and perjurers and could not he trusted.
