POSSESSION OF OPIUM.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. A Chineso fruiterer, Allan Lum On, aged 32, appeared in the Police Court charged with unlawfully having in his possession 21 packets of prepared opium. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused would not disclose where the drug was obtained. A bank book in the possession of accused, who was described by Mr McHugh as a distributor of opium, showed a credit of £BO. Answering the Detective-Sergeant, accused denied that the bank book was in connection with an opium “trust.” He said the money belonged to his brother, who was a carrier. “He makes more money than most carriers,” remarked the Magistrate. Accused was fined £SO. Default was fixed at three months’ imprisonment.
