AMATEUR CYCLING.
The usual monthly committee meeting of the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club took place last evening. Mr C. Stagpoole presided over a full attendance. A discussion on tlio matter or registration fees took place and it was decided to recommend to the sub-centre that Is out of the registration fee of cyclists bo dovotod to a separate tuna for the purpose of enabling overseas cyclists to visit New Zealand, or New Zealand cyclists to go overseas when the opportunity arose. The reason tor this recommendation was that for years the cyclists’ registration fees had been paid into the Olympic Fund and when the time for selection for the last Olympic Games came along only pedestrian athletes were chosen and New Zealand’s sole cycling representative (who performed very creditably) had to be financed by his friends and club supporters. . .. Tli© club captain, Mr I. Ross, intimated that be was prepared to give an address to all amateur cyclists interested on the fine points of competitive cycling. His offer was- accepted. ' Other business attended to was the arrangements of the short road cycle races throughout the summer season. Tho first race will take place on Thursday evening, the 22nd inst. Programmes were drawn up for forthcoming evening meetings: Next Mondays pr°gramme will comprise: 100 yards fiat race.for club members, A grade cycle races over 1 lap and 4 miles, B grade cycle races over 1 lap and 3 miles and a 2 lap boys’ cycle event.
