LOCAL BODY LOANS.

CONVERSION ASKED FOR, “That tho attention of the Counties’ Association be drawn to the desirability of the Government taking urgent steps to (1) introduce compulsory conversion of local bodies’ loans and (2) bring about a considerable reduction in the rates of interest on loans” was a motion put forward by Crs. N. Morcom and J. H. Perrett at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, following a discussion op what steps should be taken to bring about an improvement in local finances. Members of the council were emphatic that if nothing could be done mutually it should be done compulsorily.
