WHITE BUTTERFLY.
HAWKE’S BAY CONCERN. It was reported to the general committee of the Alanawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, yesterday, that the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Association had written soliciting small donations of £1 and £2 from each farmers’ organisation throughout the Dominion for the establishment of a fighting. Tund for research work in combating the white butterfly pest. It was pointed out that this pest was ravaging cruciferous crops in the Hawke’s Bay district arid, unless checked, would extend its depredations over the whole of the Dominion. The Government had only made available an additional £IOO for coping with the pest. The Manawatu Association decided to make a donation of £l, though Air AV. Grey expressed the opinion that it was tho duty of the Government to provide funds, adding that in any event any money available for the purpose should be retained for dealing with the white butterfly in the Alanawatu district.
