CHILDREN’S CALF CLUBS.
DIVISION’S CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS. There was a busy scene at the Palmerston North Showgrounds from about 10.30 o’clock, this morning, when the championship awards for the Manawatu-Oroua division of the cihldren’s calf club movement were made. The best calves from each group had been found and there were 38 animals on parade when the gathering was photographed before the judging commenced. There was a new departure when a judging competition was conducted for the children, the best three out of five calves having to be chosen by the competitors who allotted pbints out of a 100 maximum and gave reasons for the awards they made. Thus the children gained a great deal of practical knowledge. h’or the proper judging, Messrs J. H McLinden (Massey- College) evidence of good rearing, and A. Horn (Kuku), type, were the officials and had the assistance of Messrs Croucher, Dear, Roberts, Bennett, Connell, and Lange, members of the executive comml_At the conclusion of the awards for dairy tyP e . evidence of good rearing, yearling heifers, purebred and interschool challenge cup the children and their parents were addressed by Messrs M 4 Eliott (president of the Manawatu A and P. Association) W. J. McCulloch (Department of Agriculture), L. H. Collinson and the judges.
