REDUCTION OF INTEREST.

CONVERSION LOAN FAVOURED. DAIRY FARMERS’ ATTITUDE. “I do not think wo need any discussion about this matter,” stated the chairman (Mr N. Campbell) at the meeting of the executive of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, this afternoon, in moving that they support the Manawatu County Council in urging upon the Government the desirability of taking steps to introduce compulsory conversion of local bodies’ loans and bring about a considerable reduction in the rates of interest. Mr W. B. Faulding seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Another resolution carried unanimously by the union was as follows: ‘‘That in view of the present economic position in New Zealand, and the urgent necessity for a reduction in all costs, of which interest is the main factor, this union is of the opinion that the action of the Government in offering 5 per cent, on Government loans is not in the best interests of the country as a whole. This resolution was on identical lines with that passed by the Manawatu County Council.
