GOODWILL BROADCAST.
MESSAGES FOR AMERICA,
WELLINGTON, Dec. 16,
Commencing at midnight to-morrow, eastern standard time, the radio station AVCKY at Covinton, Kentucky, America, will broadcast a special goodwill programme for the benefit of New Zealand listeners. Messages will be broadcast on behalf of the President of the United States of America, President Hoover, his successor in office, Governor Roosevelt, and other distinguished citizens. Information as to this broadcast is contained in a cablegram the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has received from Mr L. B. Wilson, president of the WCKY radio station. His cablegram reads as follows; “In response to requests from thousands of our listeners in New Zealand WCKY will give a special three-hour goodwill broadcasting, starting at Sunday midnight, December 17, eastern standard time. The broadcast will bring New Zealand messages from President Hoover, Governor Roosevelt, British Ambassador and others. America’s most famous orchestras will broadcast. Our frequency is 1490 kilocycles.” Mr Forbes has replied to Mr Wilson by cablegram in the following terms; “The people of New Zealand send cordial greetings to people of the United States of America, and with them sincerely trust that 1933 will bring a substantial improvement In the present world-wide economic conditions. We greatly appreciate the action of WCKY in arranging a goodwill broadcast.”
Alidnight eastern standard wohld be 4.30 p.m. New Zealand mean time, which, with summer time in operation, is now equivalent to 5 p.m. on December 18.
