FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Dec. 15.
There was alarge attendance of returned soldiers in the Town Hall supper room last evening in response to organisation on the part of one or two Foxton men who were anxious that a branch of tho N.Z. R.S.A. should be formed locally. Mr M. B. Lergin occupied tlie clin.ii* <ind outlined tliG object of the meeting. He also introduced Mr S. J. Harrison, general secretary of the R.S.A., of Wellington and Messrs Hamilton (president) and McKay of the Levin R.S.A. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Air B J. Jacobs, of Palmerston North. Mr Harrison addressed tho meeting at some length and stated that the real reason for his visit to hoxton was to endeavour to relieve distress amongst the returned men. A long discussion ensued during which Mr IlarriJon gave the men some useful information. It was finally decided that ucommittee be set up locally to operate under the Levin _ Association until such time, as Foxton decided to hive off as a separate body. Mr M. B. Bergin was elected chairman and Messrs H. J. Reid, Win. Trueman, R. Byne and J. Clarke were" elected a committee, Mr Bync to be secretary. Three races were held under the auspices of tho Foxton Amateur Cycling Club. The results were: —Tricycle Race: T. Thomson. 1 E. Irwin 2, J. Huff 3. Boys’ two lap event: H. Conclne I N. Riches 2, J. Xcvillo 3. Men’s fivo lap: 8. Graham (Levin) 1, J- D. Purcell 2, L. Thompson 3.
