THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A slight anti-cyclone covered New Zealand yesterday, and a fresh westerly depression has reached Tasmania. A tropical disturbance centred far north of the Dominion is, however, largely controlling the situation. Variable and mainly light to moderate winds; northerlles prevailing over the South Island and. southerlies over the north. vSeas smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate to fresh northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea and moderate seas. Weather fine generally at first and mild. A few showers developing to-day in Westland and the far south. DISTRICT REPORT. NORTHERLY. WINDS. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day : —The indications are for moderate, but freshening northerly winds. There is a prospect of fair weather with warm temperatures, but increasing haze and cloudiness may be expected shortly. The barometer shows little movement. It should, however, soon commence to slowly fall. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft 6ins.
