YOUTHFUL AIRMAN.
NEW FLIGHT COMMENCES. Received December 16, 9.25 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 15. Mr Victor Smith, the young man who recently flew from Capetown, left Croydon at one o’clock this afternoon in an attempt to reach Capetown under three days. He declared that he was determined to start despite the head winds and unfavourable conditions. He is aiming for Oran (Algeria) to-night and hopes to cross the Sahara in the daytime. Mr Smith is flying the machine in which Mr Butler flew to Australia in 1931. FORCED DESCENT. Received December 16, 10.21 a.m. SAINT MALO, Dec. 15. Owing to strong winds, Mr Smith alighted unhurt in a field. The machine was not damaged. He will return to Croydon to make a fresh start. MRS MOLLINSON’S PROGRESS. Received December 16, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 15. Mrs J. A. Mollison left Oran for London at 3.12 this afternoon.
