CRICKET CONTROL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. ENCOURAGEMENT OF BOWLERS. Mr W. G. Miller presided over a meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Cricket Association, last night. There were also present; Messrs W. J. Millen, E. J. Werry, M. O’Keefe, F. Holz, H. V. Mountfort, G. Griggs and R. A. Brace (secretary). Tire New Zealand Cricket , Council wrote urging that some step should be taken to promote improved bowling amongst young cricketers. Should any scheme productive of novel features be introduced the council would bo pleased to receive particulars. —The chairman stated that he would like to discuss the matter with the selector (Mr A. M. Ongley) and the letter was held over for discussion after the holidays. The Palmerston North Primary Schools’ Cficket Association wrote thanking the association for its donation towards the expenses of sending a team to Wellington. —Received. The Town Clerk advised that application had been made by the Kia Toa Athletic Club for the use of the Sportsground on Wednesday evenings and other nights for general training purposes. the club being referred to the Cricket Association to make arrangements. —Held over pending receipt of an application from the Kia Toa Club.

The United Club made application for the registration of A. Cutler, while the Old Boys’ Club applied for the transfer of.A. Stubbs from the United Club. A protest was entered against the latter club requiring the player to pay 7s 6d as a proportion of his senior subscription, in view of the fact that he had participated in only one game. —The chairman considered that the matter lay between the player and the United Club and no action was taken. The Unemployed Sports Club intimated its preparedness to donate £3 3s as ground fees for members participating in the Wednesday and Saturday series.—The offer was accepted. GENERAL. In view of the fact that the Kia Toa Club was playing two former members of the United junior team who had not secured tlieir clearances, it was decided to notify the club that until they received tlieir clearances the players concerned would not be eligible to participate in tlie competitions. HOLIDAY FIXTURES. Tlie following fixtures were arranged for the holiday season: — . December 26 and 27. —v. Rangitikei at Palmerston North (tentative). December 26. —Junior representatives v. Foxton. December 27.—v. Horowlienua at Levin. January 2 and 3.—v. Wairarapa at Masterton. . . . January 4 and s.—v. Victoria University at Palmerston North. Overtures are also to be made to the Hutt Club for a senior game on January 2 and 3 at Palmerston North, while arrangements are to be made for the playing of a game between the Wednesday players and Saturday juniors for January 2. . The Wellington and Kilbirnie Clubs intimated that they would be unable to send teams to Palmerston North during the holidays. COMPETITION GAMES.

It was decided to proceed with the Saturday fixtures on Christmas Eve in so far as tlie senior and junior grades are concerned, but the tlind grade' division will observe a recess till the High School resumes. Play will be re-entered upon in the first named grades on January 7 for the Saturday players and Wednesday, January 11, in the mid-week series. Messrs Brace and McGavin were appointed selectors of the Wednesday team to oppose the Saturday juniors. ADOPTION OF RULES.

Later a meeting of club delegates was held to adopt the new rules which have been drawn up by the special committee set up for that purpose. With some minor alterations they were adopted in toto.
