BOXING.
CHAMPIONS IN ACTION. With two of the fastest and cleverest lightweights, Ted Oxley, of Pahiatua, and Archie Hughes, the Dominion champion, pitted against each other for fifteen rounds, fight fans in this district will see one of the best exhibitions of the manly art over seen in this district. They are evenly matched, ns has been proved in tho two previous otxmsions on which they have met, and that Oxley has not been satisfied wtih the result on at least one of those occasions. By the Auckland Press reports of their last encounter Oxley was the winer nearly all the way; the wireless running report made it look as though the “Bush” boy was to win the championship, and much surprise was left when the Aucklander was given the decision on points. The fight, which takes place on Monday night next (Boxing Night) at the Opera House, will probably be the last I meeting between the pair and great satisfaction in the district has been manifested that this match has been arranged for Palmerston North. Pahiatua could net ! possibly put up the big purse necessary for such a contest, and the s.-orts in and around the Bush suburb ha\e been quite busy in their endeavours to get Hughes and Oxley to meet on the latter's o’yn ground. Pahiatua cannot see its champion getting beaten, and will he present to a man on Monday night to see the li'dit. The box plans open at the Central Booking Office on Friday next for reserved seats, so enthusiasts should send in at once to secure a good seat. Matches like these are always popular in Palmerston North and dospite the bad times the attendance is expected to be big on this occasion.
