EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” DECEMBER 19, 1902. Tiro Palmerston North High School Committee had decided on tho motto which the school still retains, “Nihil Boni Sine Lahore”—“Nothing is gained without labour.” What was claimed to be a shearing record had been made in the Taiatu (Taranaki) district where a Maori shore 101 sheep by hand between 640 a.m. and noon, with a spell of 40 minutes for breakfast. At a sale of Ilutt suburban land the average prioo per acre was £I2OO and the highest price was £lO per foot.
The National Bank of New Zealand had declared an interim dividend ot 10 per cent. Signor Marconi was reported to have had daily perfect wireless communication between Cornwall and Breton and ho expected to communicate over 20,000 miles.
