NEW COMET
3.45 P.M. EDITION
OBSERVED IK ADELAIDE. Received December 19, 1.5 p.m. ADELAIDE, Dec. 19. What is believed to be a new comet was observed on Friday evening, but it was invisible to the naked eye. It is of the ninth magnitude, right ascension 22 hours 59 minutes 13 seconds, declination, right 29 degrees 20 minutes. The comet is in the constellation of Piscis, and it is suggested that it is Temple’s comet which has not been seen since its discovery in 1866 though observers have been watching for it.
According to the Oracle Encyclopaedia, Temple’s Comet, of 1873, was observed on May 8, 1893, from the Cape. It was then of No. 2 magnitude and possessed no tail.
