An intense anti-cyclone still remains centred east of the Dominion, while a complex depression now extends between New South Wales and south-west New Zealand. Moderate to strong north-easterly to northerly winds, rising to gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait, backing to southerly soon in the far south, and later southerlies becoming general, llough seas south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Strong northeasterly wind backing to southerly and south-easterly, and seas rough in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather fair to fine and warm generally at first, but soon becoming unsettled in western and far southern districts, with rain developing and some heavy falls in Otago. Fairly widespread rain accompanying a southerly change after 24 to 36 hours. DISTRICT REPORT. The Government meteorologist telegrphed to-day:—The indications are for moderate northerly winds, backing by west to south after about 20 hours. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather.
