FREE AMBULANCE SERVICE.

HOSPITAL BOARD SEEKS EXPLANATION. It was reported to the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday afternoon that, at a meeting of subscribers to the Palmerston North Free Ambulance Service, the chairman (Major J. T. Bosworth), had , according to a Press report, allegedly stated that “when the Hospital ambulance was called for, the men were on other duties, and from no fault of their own, it might take from 20 to 30 minutes to arrive on the scene.” The managing-secretary. (Mr A. J. Phillipps) stated that such a statement should be publicly contradicted if it had been made as propaganda for the Free Ambulance Service, as an independent record was kept in the Hospital office of the time when calls were received, when the ambulance left, and when it returned. The chairman of the board (Mr J. K. Hornblow) said the board must take exception to the statement allegedly made by the chairman of the other organisation. He moved that a letter be forwarded to him asking for his authority for making the statement. Air G. A. Monk seconded the motion, which was carried.
