MARTON, Dec. 19. Miss I. Broad, of Marton, is staying with Miss Lucy Penn, of Stratford. Old Boys defeated Marton on the County Cricket Grounds at Marton by 58 runs on the first innings. L. Mclndoe and Corballis were the double figure scorers for Marton, with 16 and 20. 11. I.anjbert topped Old Boys’ score with a fine total of 81 runs. At Hunterville, Porewa batted first and compiled 222 runs, D. A. Cameron 76, Marshall 60 and J. Swainson 36, being the chief scorers. When stump_s wore drawn Hunterville had scored 123 for the loss of five wickets. • The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Marton Lodge was held on Friday, a small attendance being presided over by N.G. Sis. M. H. Oldfield, assisted by V.G. Bro. J. OlShaughnessy. Correspondence included a letter from Grand Master ✓Bro. 11. S. M. Quigley, in which he extended fraternal and seasonal greetings, and exhorted members to do their utmost to help one another during the period of stress. A greetings card wa3 received from P.D.G.M. Bro. L. Stein, of Dannevirke, and it was resolved that the sentiments expressed be heartily reciprocated. Bro. V. 11. K. Perkins, who represented the lodge on the occasion of the visit of Manawatu I-odge to tho Combined Wellington Lodges, wrote a glowing account of the proceedings and the wonderful hospitality accorded to the visitors. Bro. W. D. Jackson, P.G., tendered his resigna- ; tion as a member of the lodge investigation committo.—lt was decided to defer consideration to a later date. Members who visited Manawatu and Taihapo Lodges reported on the visits and the arrangements made for their entertainment. An exchange of seasonal greetings brought proceedings to a close at an early hour, aftor which supper was served, and parlour games and dancing proceeded with. The breaking-up ceremony at the Marton District High School took place on Friday morning, Mr A. Stuart, M.P., officiating. Certificates and special awards were made as under: —Klitscher Cup, J. Nicol (senior champion); Stuart Cup, Red House (Nicol); Marton Athletic Association Cup, Henry Lambert; Gould Rose Bowl, Joyce Ingle. Juniors: McDonald Cup, Harry Wilkie; Lampp Cup B. Tinling (junior champion); School Medal, H. Wilkie; Gatrell Medal, Noel Reynolds; High School Trophy, Is!a Parkinson; Way Cup, Phyllis Moore; Sutcliffe Trophy, Margaret Ingle; Thomson Shield, Red House (K. Cole).
