HOROWHENUA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI. Dee. 19. On Thursday afternoon the December meeting of the Te Iloro Women’s Institute took place in tho ball, Mrs Blake presiding over a good attendance. This being the last meeting of the year, the business -part was abbreviated in order that the afternoon could be more of a social one. Two much appreciated gifts, a dressing table set and a knitting bag, were presented to the institute, and are to bo competed for during the next two meetings. There was a good number of entries in each of the three competitions judged by Airs Harrison, of Pahiatua. The winner for the best coat-hanger was Aliss Ashdown, with Mrs Ashdown second and Mrs Empson third. The best raflia-niade basket was exhibited by Airs Terry, Airs Walker was second, and Airs Jenkins was first for the best plate of biscuits (two varieties), with Airs Terry second. Aluch amusement was derived from a novelty item —a surprise packet competition. The euchre Rarty and dance organised by Mosdames Fiebig and Synnott and ably assisted by Air R. Fielding, was very successful. Air and Airs 0. H. Howell intend to spend a month’s holiday in the Taihapo district.
