CITY COUNCIL’S COLLECTIONS. BIG BALANCE OUTSTANDING. Rates struck by the Palmerston North City Council for tlrn current financial year represent a total of £76,637 7s 4d and, in order to distribute the burden more evenly over the year, provision was made for the acceptance of monthly payments. With less than a month remaining before the imposition of the customary penalty, the amount received to date is £21,1211 7s Id. This means that there is still outstanding a balanoe of £55,393 Ob 3d. The amount collected represents 27.6 per cent, of the total struck, and is less than that in hand at the corresponding period of last year, but the payments being received are increasing daily.
