OBITUARY.
MR H. L. TAPLEY, C.M.G. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 21: The death has occurred at the age of 57 years of Mr H. L. Tapley, C.M.G.
Born in Semaphore, South Australia Mr Tapley came to New Zealand in ’ 1891 and in 1900 established the shipping, stevedore and insurance business’of which he was managing director. He was associated with many local bodies in Dunedin, being a member of the City Council for several years and Mayor from 1923 a member of the Harbour Board; of which lie was chairman in 1919 and 1920 and a member of the Hospital Board for a period. He was a promoter director and vice-patron of the Dunedin Exhmition that was held in 1925 and 1926, being created C.M.G. in the latter year Mr Tapley successfully contested the Dunedin North seat in 1925, being a member of the House of Representatives until 1928. He recently returned from a trip to Australia.
