SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES. WIN FOR NEW SOUTH WALES. ADELAIDE, Dec. 20. In the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, New South Wales in the second innings scored 86 for seven wickets. The overnight batsmen, Oldfield and O’Reilly, obtained the requisite eleven runs to win, although there wore thrills in the final seven minutes’ play, when Grimmett dropped an easy catch from O’Reilly and Walker almost .stumped Oldfield. Wall took four wickets for 31 runs; Grimmett, two for 41. New South Wales won by three wickets. VICTORIA BEAT QUEENSLAND. MELBOURNE, Dec. 20. Playing in the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria, Queensland in the second innings scored 74. Cook, not out 36, was top scorer. Ironmonger took seven wickets for 13 runs;'Fleetwood-Smith, one for 40; Alexander, one for 5. Queensland found Ironmonger, owing to his spin and accuracy, unplayable. Few hits were attempted off the veteran bowler, who covered himself with glory. Victoria won by an innings and 139 runs.
