(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' FOXTON, Dec. 20. Miss Avis Barnett is spending her holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs S. J. Barnett, Avenue Road. The annual prize-giving and concert in connection with the Presbyterian Sunday 6chool was held on Monday night. There was a largo attendance and a capital programme was submitted by the scholars. The presentation of prizes was made by Mr Leishman, the following pupils being successful:—Senior Girls, R. McKenzie 1, S. Barron 2, Z. Fraser 3. Junior Girls, J. McKenzie 1, J. Clark 2. Attendance: J. McKenzie and K. Shaw. Senior Boys, L. Knewstub 1, A. Ebbett 2. Junior Boye, D. Ebbett 1, D. Clark 2, W. Judd 3. Attendance, D. Ebbett and W. Judd. Special prizo, C. Baird. The infants were presented wifh books kindly donated bv Mrs J. Newton. FOXTON, Doc. 21. Tho following are the results of Saturday’s cricket matches:—Druids beat Y.M.P., Firo Brigade beat U.M.P.,' Oroua Downs A beat Oroua Downs B. Two grass fires broko out yesterday afternoon near Foxton, one being _on the racecourse and the other throe miles out on tho Foxton-Plimatangi Highway. Prompt action prevented tho racecourse firo from assuming any sorious proportions but a considerable area was burnt off near Motuiti. Fortunately tho firo occurred on the opposite side of the road to tho plantations which were not damaged. The services in connection with tho Methodist Sunday School anniversary were hold in ideal weather in a tastefully dc>coratod church. Tho children attended in good numbers and their singing under Mr P. J. Mair’s conductorship, was splendid, and with tho organ played by Mrs Riches and Miss Walsh with tho violin, the melody was complete. Mr and Mrs R. A. Robbie, of Whyto Street, loft Foxton during tho week-end for Palmerston North where they will spend a fow days prior to setting out on a motor tour of the north. Mr E. Healey, of Sydney, was a visitor to Foxton yesterday, whon ho took tho opportunity of renewing old acquaintanceships. Mr I). Barker, of Wellington, left for _ Palmerston North yesterday to visit his parents, aftor spending a few days locally with Mr and Mrs R. Owen. At the breaking-up ceremony in connection with the Foxton District .High School tho headmaster (Mr F. A. Mason) made special reference to tho swimming awards and paid a well deserved tributo to Mr R. A. Robbie, who supervised the instruction. Mr Robbio was accorded cheers by the scholars. Miss 13. V. Bindon, of Christchurch, is spending the holidays in Foxton as tho guest of Mr and Mrs D. R. Barron, Robinson Street. Tho friends of Mr Wm. Trueman, town clerk, -will regret to learn that ho is at present confined to bed with a severe chill. On Saturday evening a pleasant smoko concert took placo in tho Surf Club’s new pavilion at the beach, a full muster of members being present. Mr W. Hussey occupied tho chair and several toasts were honoured.
