Tho segrotary of tho Napier Park Racing Club, on November 26, wrote as follows: “I have been advised by tho New Zealand Racing Conference that your club is objecting to our application to race on January 28 next. The only reason for this club departing from its usual dates is to hold a one-day meeting in connecltion with the Napier Carnival which commences on January 21, 1933, to celebrate the rebuilding of'the town consequent on tho earthquake of 1931. Our application is for next vear only and our race meeting is to form portion of tho Napier Carnival programme and under these circumstances my committee would bo very pleased if you could see vour wav to withdraw your objection as we do not wish to upset the arrangements outlined bv the general carnival committee.” The New Zealand Racing Conference, under date December 7, wrote: ‘‘l have to advise vou that the dates committee have decided to grant January 28, 1933, to tho Napier Park Racing Club for a one-day totalieator meeting. It was considered that ns the dav came after your club’s meeting it would not clash with it.” In reply to this tho secretary of tho Pahiatua club (Mr J. 0. Swainson) wrote as follows: I am in receipt of vour letter of the 7th inst. and regret to hear that tho dates committee has granted the above application, lhere is not tho slightest doubt in the minds of our stewards that the fact of .the Napier Park Club holding a race meeting so close to our dates will have a detrimental ottect on our meeting insofar as the attendance of the Hawke’s Bay horses are cqncerned. In fact, wo have ulread.v had evidence ot this. In speaking to one of tho Hastings trainers, who has for several years past brought horses to our meeting, he stated that he would not bo coming down this vear, preferring to run his horses at the Napier meeting and so save the expense of travelling to Pahiatua. .Will you plea.se let me know whether there is any likelihood of the dates committee reconsidering their decision ?” The roply from the Racing Conference. read ut last night’s meeting, was: “In reply to your letter I have to advise vou that each member of the dates committee was supplied with a copy of your club’s objection to the Napier Park Racing Club being granted Jan. 28 (one day after vour meeting) und in view of all the circumstances I do not think there is any likelihood of tho committee rcconsidoring its decision.”
