The noxious weeds report showed that there were small patches of ragwort and hemlock on several farms m tho district, and the inspector was instructed to see that these were destroyed. Since last meeting the receipts amounted to £26 16s Id, and the expenditure to £76 6s Bd.

Carnival Week is proving a great success, and daily attractions are the means of bringing in crowds of country people. The round of festivities includes band concerts, sports, tug-of-war, baby show and children’s fancy dress parade, and a carnival dance and euchre party. On Alonday evening the Wanganui Garrison Band gave ail open air concert. A long and difhcult programme was rendered, and each number was roundly applauded. At the conclusion of the concert the band members were entertained in the Town Hall supper room, where the chairman of tho Town Board, Mr J. E. Walker, took the opportunity of thanking the Wanganui musicians for coming along and providing such a splendid entertainment. The children’s fancy dress parade attracted a good deal of interest on Alonday afternoon, and the costumes worn were both beautiful and original. A baby show was also held, and drew about 20 entries, while the parade of decorated cycles and prams was also well up to the average. The awards were as follow: Babies: Untlci 6 months, Terence Ellery 1; under 12 months, Margaret Tarrant 1; over 12 months, Baby Vile (Ohakca) 1. Poster costume, D. Zajonskowski 1, Noel 1 arrant 2, character costume, Al. Zajonskowski 1, 1. Ellery 2. Special prizes were awarded to Pat Bromley and Tasma Alcads. Decorated vehicles, Maureen Raii'e 1,. Bob Harvey 2. The annual general meeting of the Bula=Ohakea Sports Club was well attended on Friday evening. Tho annual report read as follows: The sports meeting held on February 27 can be considered quite a success. The running and cycling events drew larger fields than the previous year, and clubs in adjacent districts were well represented. We were pleased to have the active attendance of Don Evans, of the Taihapo Club. Tho Highland events drew quite tho usual support of competitors. We regret that wo had to curtail our prize list for the past season, but financial conditions certainly warranted this step, and it is very pleasing that wo can feel that our action in no way marred the success of our meeting. Our gate receipts are just ahead of those of the previous year, but our revenue from subscriptions shows a falling off of about £l4. However, all expenditure has been kept to an absolute minimum and after paying two outstanding accounts we will have closed tile year with a debit of a few shillings. I regret that we have lost the active assistance of a valued member in Mr Petrie (removed to Hunterville on promotion). He was not only our auditor but also a very active member of the committee. In conclusion, I wish to thank all members and officials who helped to make the Bulls-Ohakea Sports Club’s annual nieeting such a success.” The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted.
