NEW GEYSER.
ROTORUA MUD POOL. SHOT SEVENTY FEET HIGH. ROTORUA, Dec. 21. Bubbling peacefully in the heart of the Arikikapa Reserve for many years, a large mud pool last evening decided upon a career of activity. After giving premonitory rumbling for about half an hour, the pool blew out with a great roar. Mud and slush were carried t-o a height of 70ft and spattered over surrounding trees for over a chain.
The first explosion was witnessed by only one person, .who was lucky not to be caught. Later another magnificent shot was seen. Boiling mud in the pool gradually rose higher and higher, till it burst out with a terrific roar, throwing a great volume into the air. Should this new geyser continue to play it will prove an additional attraction to the thermal region. Meanwhile, it should be approached w'lth caution.
