IRISH FREE STATE.
DISMISSAL OF COLONEL. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN. Received December 22, 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 21. The Daily Mail’s Dublin correspondent says that the Government dismissed without explanation Colonel David Neligan, head of the detective division of the Civic Guard. Colonel Neligan was one of Mr Michael Collins’s lieutenants against the British, and afterwards intelligence officer in tho Free State army against Mr'cTe Valera’s irregulars. Extremist Republicans dislike Colonel Neligan. They demanded his removal and urged the disbandment of the detective division. REPAYING LOAN TO AMERICA. LONDON, Dec. 21. The Irish Free State announces a plan for repayment of the balance of an American loan of £1,000,000, raised during tho troubles of the period 1918-20, by paying 1J dollars for every dollar subscribed, less the amount already paid. A Bill embodying the plan is being introduced into the Dail Eireann.
