ACTIVITY IN SYDNEY. FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR. IMPROVEMENT IN RECENT MONTHS. \ (United Press' Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 22, 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 22. Tho Water Board’s figures of the new buildings erected in the city and suburbs during tho current year show that tho slump which was in evidence during 1931 continued during the first six months of the current year, but there was an upward tendency in recent months-. The return show that 1443 new buildings were erected at a cost of £1,866,472 this year compared with 1621 now buildings costing £1,792,145 in 1931. BUSINESS ACTIVITY. INCREASE IN NEW SOUTH WALES SYDNEY, Dec. 21. The Premier, Mr B. S'. Stevens, reviewing tho economic conditions, said during the past six months business activity had increased 10 per cent., wholesale trade 7 per cent., and the turnover of the principal department stores more than 10 per cent. The deposits in tho savings banks had Tilcreased. £1,300,000 and it was estimated that at least 20,000 additional employees were engaged in tho factories of New South Wales. Mr Stevens added that there had also been a marked revival in business in real estate and the Stock Exchange, while tho expansion of rail and tramway receipts was most substantial.
