The majority of the retailers in Feilding report that ; although there Iras l>een steady business, the amount of shopping being done has vet to develop considerably to attain last year’s figures. Shopkeepers are confident, however, that a rush ol business at the last hour will do much to lower the Christmas stocks laid in and this morning there were evident signs of this fact materialising, the town being much busier than usual | even at an early hour. The tendency ! tin’s year, it is said, is towards small and comparatively inexpensive gifts. At the Feilding Post Office the usual Christmas postal activity lias been steadily developing without any great rush being shown. The business has been very steady all the week but a noticeable feature has been the shrinkage in the number of parcels handed in and a corresponding increase in Christmas cards posted.
