AUSTRALIANS IN AMERICA.
TEMPORARY RELIEF GIVEN. The pathetic plight of many Australians in thq United States, due to the depression, is disclosed by the growing number who are entreating aid of the Australian representative in New York, Mr Dow. Mr Dow is devoting much energy to helping . them and has procured several berths on homeward —hound ships. He prevented the eviction of a woman who was suddenly stranded, but he is hampered by lack of money, as he has no appropriation for such purposes. He is obtaining jobs for some, and temporary relief for others by the provision of food and lodgings. A new immigration ruling, barring foreign nurses, threatens many Canadians and Australians throughout the country with the loss of their jobs.
