MANY CHARGES.
ESCAPEES BEFORE COURT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. Two escapees from the Hautu prison camp last February, Edgar William Allen, alias Roy Norris, and Charles Bennett, appeared before J.P.’s to answer many charges of breaking and entering and theft of goods and cash from stores at Oliaupo, Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Otorolianga and Mahoenui during their period of liberty. They pleaded guilty to all charges. On the five principal charges Bennett was committed to the Auckland Supreme Court for sentence and on the minor charges was sentenced to 18 months. Another charge theft of jewellery, etc., at AVaverley, was preferred against Bennett, who was remanded to AVanganui. Allen had been dealt with on many other charges soon after his recapture last April in the AVanganui district. Bennett was recaptured a fortnight ago in the Te Kuiti district.
