LAWN TENNIS.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB’S

TOURNAMENT. As in previous years the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association will conduct its annual tournev on the Linton Street courts on Wednesdav. Thursday and Friday next. Entries closed last night, but the club’s executive were accepting late entries this morning and there is every indication that the numbers will fully attain expectations. Among those wlio have entered for the championships are some of the Dominion s best players in both divisions, such names as Noel Wilson and C. E. Maifroy of Wellington, R. Court and J. Lowrv, of Hawke’s Bay. Stedmatr of Auckland, and E. D. Andrews of Palmerston North, being included. the above will not need any introduction to Palmerston North enthusiasts, Malfrov having earned for himself a log reputation in England as a Cambridge blue, while Andrews’s reputation is world-wide. Figuring among the lady entrants are Miss White, of Wellington the present holder of the New Zealand title, Miss Purcell and Mrs Smith of Wanganui, and Miss Howell, of Ha’wlce’s Bay. With such an array of high class, talent, competition should be extremely keen and tlie standard of tennis very high.
