Tlie National Savings Committee in London announce that 787,034 National Savings Certificates were purchased during the week ended October 29, making a grand total purchased of 1,112,834,271.

While digging in a garden off Elizabeth Street, in tlio o'ld West Riding town of Ellarnl, near Halifax, Mr Allan AVilson, a cotton operative, discovered an earthenware urn containing 1,176 silver coins, dating from 1520 to 1605, in an excellent state of preservation. They are nearly the size of the present silver coinage, but thinner.
