STRUCK BY TRAIN.

GREYMOUTH, Dec. 23. Mr John Monaghan, aged 59, a county relief worker residing at Coal Creek, was injured at 4.20 p.m. at the Cobden end of the railway bridge, a locomotive cowcatcher striking his forehead. The driver saw him lying beside the 'line, but a rake of trucks prevented an immediate halt. Mr Monaghan bled from the wound but remained conscious. He was removed to hospital. Concussion is feared and his condition is serious.
