Britain’s Territorial strength is below establishment, the shortage consisting of 984 officers and 37,808 other ranks. Much of this drop is believed to be due to the cancellation of the camps in 1931. Yew trees of enormous si7.e are to be found in old English churchyards; one at Staines is 30 feet in circumference, while one which was moved a year or so ago near Dover had a trunk measuring 22 feet l'n circumference.
