RULES OF GOLF

REDUCTION IN BOGEY SCORES

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 24, 2.50 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 23. The British Golf Union has officially announced a scheme to reduce bogey scores by one. The scheme operates on January 1. The decision is based on the increased travelling power of the ball, steel shafts permitting longer and straighter hitting, and the improved condition of courses. The tests show that the average carry obtained by the scratch player has increased by ten yards for a, drive and five yards for a brassie shot. Under the new scoring par three will be up to 250 yards, par four from 250 yards to 470 yards, and par five over 470 yards.
