BOXING.

HOLIDAY ATTRACTION AT THE OPERA HOUSE. With all the sportsmen in the southern portion of the North Island in town for the races, nothing in "the way of night entertainment could be so attractive as a good boxing oontest, and in securing the match between Archio Hughes, the clever Australian lightweight and at present champion of New Zealand, and Ted Oxley, the quickest and cleverest lightweight seon in tho Dominion for some time, tho local association is keeping its reputation as a promoter of big fights well before the public of not only our own fair city, but in the Dominion. Tho executive body is alive to the requirements of the public, knowing quite well thnt only the big events aro likely to draw big houses so they have gone after and procured tho best. One of the principals is from the Bush district and is therefore a local lad. This makes the contest all tho more interesting to local enthusiasts. A large contingent from Pahiatua is coming specially for this event and the box plan is showing tho popularity of the fight in Palmerston North. The amateur bouts will be evenly contested as tho selection committee havo combed the Wairarapa, the Bush, Marton and Hawke’s Bay to find suitable contestants. The box plans may be seen to-day and on Monday at the Central Booking Office.
