Mr Johannes C. Andersen, of the Turnbull Library, Wellington, is at present visiting Palmerston North. An old resident of Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay, Mr Thos. D. Sullivan, formerly borough engineer at Stratford, died there on Thursday at the age of 77. Mr William Watson, Wellington, a director of the Bank of New Zealand, and formerly chairman of that institution, celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday. Mr W. P. Newton, chief clerk in the inspectors’ department of the Union Bank at Wellington, has been promoted to manager of the Napier branch of the bank. The appointment of Dr L. C. McNickle, medical registrar and deputysuperintendent of the Wellington Hospital. to the position of superintendent of the Invercargill Hospital is announced. Mr Hugo Anson, who was examiner for the Royal College of Music, and who has been staying with his parents, Dr. and Mrs G.' E. Anson, of Lower Hutt, left for England by the Rangita.il© yesterday.
