THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. Since Thursday afternoon a rather deep depression has developed rapidly over south-eastern Australia, while pressure remains high to the east of New Zealand. Moderate to strong east to north winds. Seas rather rough on the East Coast; smooth to moderate elsewhere in New Zealand waters. Moderate but freshening north-east to northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, and moderate but rising seas. Weather cloudy, warm and sultry, with fairly general rain, especially in the. North Island, with some heavy falls; more scattered at first in the South Island. DISTRICT REPORT. HUMID CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day:—The indications are for moderate northerly winds and freshening. Expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts with warm and humid conditions. Intermittent rain is to be expected and heavy in places. The barometer is falling slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—lft 3ins.
