Received December 24, 11.20 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 23. All over the country preparations for the celebration of what promises to be an unusually mild Christmas arc nearing completion. Tlie temperatures in London for several days have been at the normal level for April, and it is hoped that the fine spell will last over the week-end. The London streets present the usual aspect of bustle, and the shops are crowded. The holiday rush on the railways has begun, and tho Flying Scotsman, the Cornish Riviera express and other long distance trains left London to-day in duplicate. Two hundred extra trains arc being run to-day and to-morrow on the London-Midland and Scottish line and 97 on the Southern Railway Company’s line. Fifteen thousand seats have been booked on tho Great Western trains, and the reservations on the night train for Scotland are expected to equal last year’s figure of 2500. Once again the growing popularity of air travel has sot up a record. At Croydon all the available air liners are in service, and those leaving to-day were full to capacity. Unusually large numbers are this year spending Christmas at the seaside and numerous wintering places. Cruises have been arranged by the leading shipping firms. SYDNEY CROWDED WITH SHOPPERS. SYDNEY. Dec. 23. The city is crowded with Christmas shoppers and business is active. The weather promises to be fine for tho holidays, with passing thunderstorms in parts.
