RULE IN INDIA
3.15 P.M. EDITION
NOTED PRINCE ON CONFERENCE EFFORT. Received December 27, 11.45 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 26. Although appreciating the British Government’s efforts to secure the greatest possible agreement at the Indian Conference, Sir Raniitisinhii, in an interview emphasisd that the Princes’ entry into the Federation depends on a satisfactory solution of the four points on which the Chamber of Princes insisted, namely: Their paramountcy must be properly settled, the princes’ constitutional safeguards and treaty rights must be guaranteed, the princes’ representation in the Indian Legislature must not weaken their position, and the Federal finances must not be burdensome to native States. Sir Ranjitisinhji added: I cannot see that the Conference ha-s done anything definite towards harmonising the Chamber of Princes’ policy in these spheres which I was given mandate to secure. I am still hoping that mutual goodwill will enable an ultimate solution to be reached.
