EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” DECEMBER 27, 1902. Beautiful weather prevailed for the first day of the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting, when the totalisator handled £12,135. The Manawatu Clip was won by Mr G. E. Richardson’s Hinetawa (7.10), Mr \V. Young’s Convoy being second and Mr J. Munn’s Kahuwai third. Because of closer settlement taking place in the vicinity of the Oroua Downs homestead, the Wanganui Education Board had decided to make arrangements for the erection of a school at Himatangi. The Emperor of Austria had accepted the renunciation of Archduke Leopold Ferdinand on the condition that lie would not return to the country.
